9 Tips and Tricks on How to Survive a Bridal Show

Posted on 01/27/2017

Bridal Shows can be a lot of fun, but can also be very hectic and overwhelming.

As a Destination Wedding & Honeymoon specialist, Total Advantage Travel & Tours, has a presence at all of the major Greater Toronto Area Bridal Show, including Canada's Bridal Show, The National Bridal Show and Toronto's Bridal Show.
With all of our Bridal Show experience, here are nine tips for a successful visit to a Bridal Show!

1. Look for a Discount

Some Bridal Shows offer discounts or even free admission for Brides and/or Grooms.
Check the website of the Bridal Show you’ll be attending to see if such an offer exists!

2. Choose the Right Time

If you’d like to avoid the crowds and have more intimate conversations with the vendors at the shows, you’ll want to visit the show during a less-busy time. The shows are least crowded during the first night of the show (Friday), followed by the first 3 hours of Saturday and Sunday's shows. If you can’t make any of those times, also consider the final 2-3 hours of Sunday’s show, but be warned that some vendors tend to close down their booths a bit early!

3. Bring the Right People

Lots of brides bring along members of their bridal party, parents, future in-laws, relatives and of course, the groom. Make sure that whomever is joining you has a realistic expectation of what you’ll be doing and how long you’ll be spending there. This can help cut down on the grouchiness level of younger visitors (and the groom). Tell everyone to wear the right shoes - choose comfort over fashion!

4. Create an Email Address for the Engaged Couple

You’ll be filling in a LOT of forms and contest ballots! Instead of filling your personal inbox with wedding-specific information, create a new, free email address for your wedding. Most couples use a combination of their names and/or wedding date when choosing a new email address. You can use this email address when you fill in forms to request quotes or enter drawings, and you can also provide it to your wedding guests if they have any wedding-related questions.

5. Make it Easy on Yourself

Almost every booth will ask you to fill out your information.
Instead of writing it each time by hand, print some address label stickers with your information. Include the engaged couple’s names, email address, phone number and wedding date. This will make your day much more enjoyable and will allow you to spend your time with vendors asking questions, rather than writing down your info. Preparing stickers is a task that is often assigned to Maids of Honour.

6. Know the Show’s Schedule

Every Bridal Show has a fashion show component.
Find out what time the Bridal Show’s fashion shows will be, before choosing the time you'll be visiting.
If you’d like to see a fashion show, make sure it fits within your schedule. If not, this can be a good time to spend speaking with the vendors, as crowds at the booths will be much lower.

7. Bring Reusable Bags

You’ll be taking home lots of literature – brochures, catalogues, magazines, free swag, etc.
Many vendors will have plastic bags to give you, but not all of them will.
So, it’s helpful to bring a few comfortable, reusable bags.
Canvas tote bags work really well, or even knapsacks!

8. Bring your own Water & Snacks

Don’t assume that you’ll be able to have lunch at the Bridal Show.
Not every Bridal Show has convenient, affordable access to food & drinks. Bottled water is often very expensive. Bring your own water and snacks, stop for coffee on the way to the show and plan to have a meal either right before or right after attending the Bridal Show.

9. Mark Down your Favourites

If you make a really strong connection with a particular vendor, put a mark on their business card. That way, you’ll remember them later on, when you’re ready to contact them for a quote or more information.

With these tips, you’re sure to have a much more enjoyable Bridal Show experience! Please share this list with anyone who will be attending a Bridal Show.
